Fruit Growers Reservoir

The Fruit Growers Reservoir was originally built by a company organized from the residents of the lower Surface Creek Valley.  Shares of the company were sold for $10 each.  The men building the dam were paid $1.25 a day and if you had a team of horses you were paid $2.00 a day.  A 20 foot tall and 450 foot long dam was completed in January, 1899.  The dam for the reservoir was later raised an additional seven feet to store water for the fruit growers of the area.

Cedar Mesa

Cedar Mesa is a mesa on the East edge of the Northern part of the Surface Creek Valley.  It is listed in the Summits Category for Delta County at an average elevation of 6,775 feet (2,065 meters) above sea level.  Though the mesa has an appearance from the valley of being flat, the mesa itself is not flat.  It has a slow elevation change from the northern end to the southern end of a little over 400 ft.

The ground on Cedar Mesa is covered in sagebrush and Juniper Trees that the locals have nicknamed as "cedar trees".

Surface Creek

Surface Creek is a creek that runs through the surface creek valley.  The creek is actually known for it's fishing. But it travels mostly through private property.  Getting access to it is not as simple.

The real purpose of the Surface Creek is for the distribution of ditch water to it's many different ditches that flow from it.
